Onshore Case Study
Our client was recommended to Web.fs by a local firm of solicitors. Her husband had recently passed away and had always dealt with their joint finances. Understandably, she found her finances difficult to grasp. They were relatively complex and further complicated by numerous individual share holdings she had inherited.
The client also had a variety of PEPs and ISAs managed by different investment companies, a portfolio of investment trusts and blue chip shares, plus a few old investment bonds.
She felt her late husband’s pension probably provided enough income, but wanted us to allow for future flexibility as she had yet to live on the monthly income provided. She also asked us to simplify matters where possible, handle the monthly mountain of paperwork she received, and grow her capital in a simple tax efficient way.
Our client was primarily looking to see her capital grow for the benefit of her children but with the flexibility to access funds and income if needed.
We recommended a multi-manager fund of funds approach to combine her ISA and PEP portfolio. We disposed of all her individual equities which were an administrative burden for her accountant and used further multi-manager funds and an investment bond to provide income she’d need in the future.
We were asked to adopt a medium-risk approach that invested a reasonable proportion of assets in equities to achieve a potentially higher returns in the medium to long-term – but in conjunction with other asset classes such as property funds, gilts and other fixed interest investments.
The client's investment arrangements are now much simpler easing the administrative burden and her worry. At the same time we’ve ensured her investments are well balanced and diversified to provide the level of flexibility that she requires.
